Matt and I have a lot to be thankful for! We feel the Lord has blessed us with a supportive, loving, healthy family. Our son is a joy to watch and love.
During Thanksgiving we visited our family in Champaign. Evan loved playing with his counsins and especially enjoyed tormenting my sister's dog Jack. All of the boys loved to play with the 'baby'. They were gentle, shared their toys and gave many hugs. We plan to celebrate Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Block in Indy at my sister's house so all the kids have room to play (and sleep).
While at Grandma and Grandpa Kolb's house Evan was the star of the show! We enjoyed going to the park, playing with new toys and visiting with family friends.
We also got together with the McLemores and Penners. It is great to see Matt, Nick and John being Dads.
In the past few weeks Evan has started teething on his crib (he is quite a cute little beaver), he is starting to stand on his own even if it is only for a second at a time, and he loves to show us how big he is by raising his arms. He is really staring to understand language and he does say mama.
We hope you all had a wonderful Thansgiving, we sure did!

Evan sure did look cute as an Elephant for Halloween! Although, he fell asleep at 6 that night and so only a couple of neighbors got to see him dressed up.
This past weekend we went to the Illinois/Minnesota football game and surprisingly Illinois won (Evan must have been the good luck charm)! It was a beautiful sunny day.
Evan is getting his top two teeth and this has been keeping him up at night. The last couple of nights we have been up for hours but tonight we are hoping for no crying.
My mom has had pain in her left arm and leg. She continues to have tests run to find out why. We are praying that the doctors find the cause and treat it.

A couple of pictures missed on my last posting...

October 25, 2009

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. My mom visited over Columbus day and we loved having her! My parents big news is that they have bought a cottage on Lake Huron. We are so excited because Evan can spend time there with his counsins and grandparents... Matt is thrilled because it is close to a fly fishing stream.
In just three weeks Evan has experienced a lot of new things. Evan had a cold which became his first ear infection and he was also teething. It didnt seem to bother him too much during the day but woke him frequently at night. He now has two bottom teeth and is over his ear infection.
We have also had snow, but thankfully not enough to shovel
He has started to eat more foods including: peas, waffels, toast, pasta, bananas, cherrios and grahm crakers. Although he has tried a lot of new foods he would rather eat his baby food. Meal time has become a lot more messier. My sisters suggestion is to get a dog.
He also like to clap, stick out his tongue and smile at the camera. He continues to move all the time and is very independent.
We are getting excited for Halloween! Evan is going to be an Elephant.

This is Evan's new favorite way to smile with his eyes closed/squinted and a big smile
If you look close enough you can see his two bottom teeth!

Evan is 8 months old today and each day he seems to be doing something new. This morning I heard him talking in his room and when I went to go get him up for the day he was standing in his crib and smiling. He is starting to crawl on his hands in knees rather than doing the army crawl and wanting to pull himself up onto everything.
He also has a cold but no matter how runny his nose is or how little sleep he has had he is on the go and as happy as can be.
The weather has starting to feel like fall here. Evan is dressed in his winter clothes and for some reason these make him seem more like a little boy (it may be because they have pockets, he wears socks and shoes).

Matt's parents visited over Labor Day and we had a great time. Our main entertainment was Evan but we also went to a Renissance Fesitval, enjoyed our new fire pit and went on a couple of walks. Evan continues to crawl everywhere and is now interested in everything-- including my laundry basket!

Since my last post Matt and I both celebrated our birthdays! We each had great days and cant ask for any better gift than our son.
Evan is definitely getting bigger, stronger and becoming more of a little boy.
He loves to crawl and explore. Each 'exploration' includes playing with toys, bang on the air vents, tile floors and pulling the DVD player and blinds when possible.
He is eating his babyfood well but hates greenbeans. He lets me know that he is not interested by shaking his head no and pursing his lips. Lets just hope he continues to eat his vegetables better than I do.
He sure is a talker. Today he was babbling for over an hour.
In the past week Evan has learned to put himself back to sleep when waking at night and now sleeps (without eating) from 7pm-6am! We have learned if we put enough pacifiers in his crib that he will find one, put it in and fall back to sleep. This morning when he woke up he not only had a pacifier in his mouth but he was also holding one.
This next week Grandma and Grandpa Kolb come to visit!

During the past two weeks we have been in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky visiting family. We had a great time!
Nate is now living in Lexington Kentucky and getting ready for law school. While there we visited the horse farms, played games, went on walks and of course Evan was the center of attention (as you can see by one of the below pictures). We also played in Indiana with Eli, Caleb and Andrew. There was not a minute rest and it was difficult to get a picture in during all they play. We then visited Champaign and had a great time seeing family, friends and visiting Indiana Acres (its hard to believe that I am no longer a lifeguard there but instead a mom in the baby pool). Evan went under water a couple of times and loved splashing in the pool.
Now that we have gotten back to Minnesota Evan has started the army crawl. He is going after all his toys... so we baby proofed the house today. He also has started using a sippy cup (although he has quite got the hang of it).

Today Matt and I celebrate our 6th wedding aniversary! We feel so blessed for the wonderful years we have had thus far.
This week Evan had his first fever and rash from 5th disease. Because of this he was not eating or sleeping well. He is starting to feel much better and luckily his rash and fever are gone. Little does he know but tomorrow he has his 6th month doctor's apt and will be receiving several shots. The poor little guy's last week has been rough.
We are traveling to see family this week and cant wait to visit with everyone!

This Friday Evan received his cranio cap. We have yet to decorate it but are thinking to place viking football stickers on it. He will wear this for 2-3 months to round out the flat spot on his head. He does not seemed bothered by it at all and remains his good natured self. We went hiking as a family this weekend and enjoyed the wonderful weather.
